AHN's head volleyball coach, Randy Thomas, was named the Tampa Bay Times Hillsborough County Coach of the Year, a well-deserved honor based on the accomplishments the program has achieved under his guidance. According to Athletic Director Kevin Vargas, the recognition is “a testament to all of the hard work, preparation and planning that Randy puts in on a daily basis, in the offseason, and throughout the course of the volleyball season.” Thomas emphasizes the importance of playing hard and playing as a team and strives to keep each of his players on the same page. Thomas said, “Coaching and being a part of AHN means a lot to me. Every day during the season I get to coach at an outstanding school and collaborate with some of the best faculty and staff around. AHN truly embraces the family-first philosophy. I always have great support and help.”
AHN Swimming & Diving Coach Bill Shaffer was named the 2018-2019 Florida Girls Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations. Shaffer has led the team to 12 consecutive district championships, 10 consecutive region championships, and the team has earned state runner-up twice. Not only has Shaffer been instrumental in developing our students’ athletic ability, he has also created a unique family environment within the program. Athletic Director Kevin Vargas said of him, “A humbling yet well-deserved honor for an extraordinary coach and father figure to all of his athletes. We are incredibly fortunate to have him as a member of our community and Holy Names family.”
