To Be, Rather Than to Seem

Inaugural Blessed Marie Rose Teacher of the Year, Rebeca Zambrano

This year, the Academy High School presented the inaugural Blessed Marie Rose Teacher of the Year award. Students were asked to select a staff member who exemplifies the favorite verse of Blessed Marie Rose, "I have come to cast fire upon the Earth, and would that it were already kindled." Rebeca Zambrano was chosen for her willingness to go the extra mile, desire to motivate each student, a fire to grow professionally and spiritually, and an understanding of what it takes to build a community.

In her 24 years at the Academy, Zambrano started the Dominican Republic Mission trip, the blood drive, and the Hunger Banquet. One of her nominators said, “She teaches in an engaging and interesting way with the pure intent of helping us grow intellectually. She incorporates the Catholic faith into each class with prayer and takes time after school to meet with students who need help. She demonstrates a genuine desire to help others and to lead students to success.”

Zambrano will be retiring from the Academy next month. A reception will be held in her honor May 24th from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in the Bailey Family Center for the Arts.
