Chanita B. A’19 received the Academy Prep Center of Tampa’s inaugural Lincoln J. Tamayo (B’74) Emerging Leader Award, which “recognizes an individual who demonstrates leadership, dedication, and integrity. This leader personifies character, perseverance, and courage, traits that are at the core of Academy Prep’s mission. The Lincoln J. Tamayo Emerging Leader Award recipient lives these leadership traits while lifting others through service to our community.” As Student Council president and Senior of the Year, Chanita regularly demonstrated her leadership skills at AHN and exemplifies the school motto, Esse Quam Videri. While at AHN, Chanita was an integral member of POWER Club (Powerful Outstanding Women Encouraging Respect) and produced the Black History Month Music Through the Ages program. She will attend University of South Florida where she plans to study to become a history teacher.
