To Be, Rather Than to Seem

Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Emmy Martin ’14

Emmy Martin ’14 was inducted into the Academy's Athletic Hall of Fame for her outstanding achievements in golf. Emmy spoke about how attending the Academy prepared her for so much more than golf—it shaped her into the woman she is today, built the foundation of her faith and prepared her for the future.

Emmy said, “I’ve always believed that your talent is God’s gift to you, but what you do with it is your gift back to God. With that in mind, I’ve always held close to my heart Colossians 3:23: 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.’”

Her high school golf coach, Chris Kumka, said, “Emmy was the leader of our AHN golf team during the most successful stretch in the program’s history. Her high school record is the most successful in the history of AHN, and one of the finest prep resumes in the history of the Tampa Bay region. She is most deserving of this recognition for her work while at the Academy, as well as what she has done since she has moved on.”

Emmy started a non profit called Played with Heart with the hope of giving other girls the same opportunity she was given through the game of golf so they may experience and know the greater purpose found in the sport.
