Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Catriana Messina ’07

Catriana Messina ’07 was inducted into the Athletic Hall Fame at the Winter Sports Banquet. She joins her twin sister, Gianna Messina ’07, who was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018. In the words of Catriana’s high school coach Casey Higgins, “Catriana and sister Gianna are arguably the most accomplished set of twins in the history of the area’s high school athletic scene. Catriana is one of the best to ever wear an Academy of the Holy Names basketball uniform.”

Catriana was inducted for her outstanding achievements and talent in basketball. Catri was a team captain her sophomore, junior and senior years. She was named a member of the 1,000-point club, scoring 1,686 during her high school career, while leading the county in assists both her junior and senior years. She was first team all-county and second-team all-state, playing in the Hillsborough County all-star game. She will be remembered for a last-second half-court shot that sent the game to overtime! Catri was also named honorable mention all-county in softball her senior year.

She went on to play college basketball on scholarship at the University of Tampa. Catri played all four years, appearing in every game during her sophomore, junior and senior years. Her senior year, she finished top five in the Sunshine State Conference and top 40 in the nation for assists. Not only was Catri an exceptional athlete, but a star in the classroom. She was recently promoted to Counsel at Phelps Dunbar, LLP, practicing in the insurance and reinsurance field.
