Mrs. Hendrickson visited Dr. Dieck’s 4th grade science classes to share her experiences digging fossils in Panama and the United States. Students learned about the process of fossilization, how scientists use stratigraphy to age rocks, and the types of fossils found. At the conclusion of the lesson, students studied 10-million-year-old shells found in the Gatún Formation in Panama and were able to identify the shell species using a photo identification guide.
