Feature Friday: Introducing Ms. Olivia Jones

Olivia Jones Feature Friday

You may have noticed a few new faces around the Elementary School this year! For the 2018-2019 school year, the Academy welcomed two new 2nd grade teachers. Today for our #FeatureFriday we introduce you to Ms. Olivia Jones. Ms. Jones is an AHN alumna that we were excited to welcome back this year! Take a moment to get to know her!

1.) Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Tampa and moved to Georgia when I went to college at UGA and lived in Atlanta for two years after that. My favorite thing about Tampa was, and still is, all of the local food and drink places.

2.) Where didi you go to high school and what was your favorite subject?

I went to AHN for high school πŸ˜Šand my favorite subject growing up was either math or science.

3.) Did you always know that you wanted to teach?

I did not always know that I wanted to teach. I have been working with children since I graduated 8thgrade, but I did not realize I wanted to teach until college. My mom was a teacher, so it was always an option, but it never occurred to me that I could actually do it until I was working with underprivileged children. Once I switched my major, I became very passionate about it and wanted to help as many people as I could.

4.) How is it having gone to the Academy and now being back as an employee?

I LOVE being back at Academy. Everyone has been so welcoming and it feels so fantastic being a part of the Academy community again.

5.) What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, I like to work out at Camp and play with my dog, Milo. I love watching sports, especially my Dawgs. I also try to get to the movies any chance I get!

6.) What is one fun fact that your students wouldn’t know about you?

One fun fact that my students wouldn’t know about me is that I played sports growing up. I played softball for about 12 years and volleyball for 7 years.

7.) In true holiday spirit, what is the worst Christmas gift you have ever received and what is the best?

The worst Christmas gift I have ever received was luggage (although it was super useful, it showed me that I was undeniably getting older) The best Christmas gift I ever received was the Mac I received my junior year of college so I did not have to lug my old Dell around to class everyday! πŸ˜Š
