To Be, Rather Than to Seem

Chain Reaction Raises Funds and Awareness for Pediatric Cancer Research

On Friday, September 20th, AHN sophomores Laura Caroline J. and Chloe M. organized the third annual Chain Reaction field day fundraiser. Inspired by their classmate's strength in her battle with cancer, the girls launched the event to raise awareness and funds among their peers for pediatric cancer. Through T-shirt, raffle, food and entry sales, the student-driven event raised more than $8,200 for the CailinStrong Foundation, in memory of Academy 8th-grader Cailin Cannella. Before the fun of the field day began, Chloe spoke to the crowd about making an impact even after Chain Reaction. “Today, tomorrow and the days following, I want you to ask yourself, ‘How will I be Cailin strong?’ The choice is yours on how you will make a difference, even if it’s in the smallest of ways.”

Highlights of the event included water balloon dodge ball and a teacher Pie in the Face. There were also carnival games and grade-level games including potato sack races for 1st-and 2nd-graders and three-legged races for 3rd-and 4th-graders. Throughout all of the fun, Laura Caroline reminded attendees to keep their motto in mind: Another link, another chance. She said, “Remember, the more people who are connected to a cause, the greater a difference it can make.”
