Library Media Center

The mission of the Academy of the Holy Names Library Media Center Program is to ensure that students and faculty are effective users of ideas and information. It is the duty of the library staff to provide the school community with a wide range of materials on all appropriate levels of difficulty. The library media center program will provide materials and services that will encourage growth in knowledge and that will encourage a love of reading while providing ways to connect to the spirit and history of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and to deepen one's understanding and experience of their charism. These materials and services will also help to develop literary, cultural and aesthetic appreciation of the arts and sciences. The library strives to stimulate intellectual curiosity and to establish the habit of lifelong reading and learning.

The High School Library Media Center occupies an office and collection room on the second floor of the main building near the lobby. The library is staffed by a Library Media Specialist who delivers programs, such as research instruction and author visits, that are appropriate for the divisional age. In addition to print resources, the library has a large collection of e-books and audiobooks for independent reading through Sora/OverDrive. Discovery Service, delivered by EBSCO, provides students with access to the library media center’s entire collection of databases via a single search box for a comprehensive and familiar search experience. Research database subscriptions include ABC-CLIO, Artstor, Biography Reference Center, Explora, ImageQuest, JSTOR, Literary Reference Center Plus, Literature Criticism Online, Opposing Viewpoints In Context, and Virtual Reference Library.  The most up-to-date library media information can be found on our PowerSchool class page.
