Our History
On July 17, 1881, two Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary arrived from Key West to open a two-room school house in a blacksmith shop on Zack Street in Tampa.

Creating confident young women who are empowered and prepared to take on the next phase of their lives. Academy students and alumnae understand and appreciate our motto, Esse Quam Videri, or "To Be, Rather Than to Seem."

The Academy of the Holy Names strives to provide an athletic program that challenges each student-athlete to be the best that he or she can be, both on and off of his or her respective playing field.

Social Studies

The Social Studies Department strives to instill in students an understanding of the historic, economic, political and social factors which shape their nation. This is achieved by developing effective thinking and reasoning skills to connect ideas and knowledge with beliefs, as well as participating in civic and service opportunities.
