What does Camp Jaguar look like for my PK3-PK4 camper?
Rising Pre-K3 and Pre-K4*
Academy of the Holy Names has developed a summer program for older 3-and 4-year-olds that provides children a small taste of what a classroom setting may feel like, adding fun activities to go along with a weekly theme. Whereas the transition into a new preschool setting can take weeks for a young child, children will learn what circle time includes, how to make and treat new friends, sing songs, visit centers one might see within his/her future preschool classroom, get accustomed to a schedule, and create amazing crafts throughout each week that are sure to be a keepsake.
One of the favorite activities for campers is visiting the pool. Full-day preschool campers will only visit the pool once, however please still pack additional clothes and a second bathing suit as they will have their own "splash pad" area for their afternoon cool off (weather permitting). We believe this will provide a fun environment for all to enjoy the water in a different way.
This camp ensures love, safety, creativity and fun for each and every child. This is an encouraged half-day program for the new little preschoolers, but we also offer a full-day which includes “lunch-bunch” and a full rest time. Let us help your child succeed in transitioning into his/her new preschool environment in time for the start of school.
On Monday of each week, full-day campers should bring a blanket or towel to rest on and any other item they like for rest time. The items will be sent home each Friday to be cleaned and returned for the next week.
*In order to attend camp at AHN, campers are required to be able to visit the bathroom without assistance from a camp counselor.*

Aim High Archery
Archery is coming to Academy of the Holy Names! Coach Doyle is certified by the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) as an archery instructor and will be following that curriculum.
Students are taught whistle signals, which are used to move to various taped lines on the range floor or ground to “get bows,” “shoot,” and “go get arrows.” They learn how to determine their “Dominant Eye” and make a “String Bow®” training aid to learn the “Eleven Steps to Archery Success”--archer form, shot execution, and follow-through. Finally, students will play games such as “Tic Tac Bow” and “Pop the Balloon” that use the skills learned. We will end with a mini-tournament.
First and foremost, in each NASP® school program comes safety. It just so happens that, according to the National Safety Council, archery is safer than every ball sport offered in schools, except ... table tennis. The program is safe and fun!

Power up! An Exploration into Electricity
Uncountable times every day—with a mere flick of our finger—we call on electricity to illuminate our day. After Edison's 1879 invention of the light bulb, electrification boosted America's economic development and quality of life. If electricity is the workhorse of the modern world, then engineers hold the reins. The Modern World now demands so much electricity that engineers are tasked with inventing new ways to generate, store, distribute, and conserve it.
Campers will investigate the energy journey of electricity from sources, storage, distribution, consumption, and conservation. Using snap circuits and a variety of hands-on materials campers will create electricity as we learn more about:
- Static electricity including inducing electrical charge, repulsion, and attraction
- Current electricity including voltage, current, and resistance
- Electrical conductors and insulators including material properties engineering
- Circuit design including series and parallel, Ohm's Law, logic gates and truth tables
- Integrated circuits including resistors, transistors, capacitors, and Moore's Law
Join us for an illuminating week exploring the hows and whys of electricity to make your future so bright you have to wear shades!

How do I know if my child is ready for camp (expected behavior)?
All participants are expected to behave appropriately at all times while in the care of the Academy of the Holy Names personnel. Any behavior issues will be addressed with the participant, and if deemed necessary, the parent(s) and/or guardian(s). If the inappropriate behavior continues, and the behavior is deemed serious enough by our faculty/staff, we will immediately withdraw the child from the summer program without refund. Parents/guardians will be phoned and expected to pick up the child immediately.
In order to attend camp at AHN, campers are required to be able to visit the bathroom without assistance from a camp counselor. If a camper has three accidents at camp during any length of time, the camper will be asked to return after he/she is able to visit the lavatory without assistance. AHN will not provide a refund for camp fees.
What are camp hours?

Drop-off for campers not attending Early Bird begins at 8:45 am, and the camp day ends at 4:00 pm. Pick-up for half-day morning sessions, including athletic camps, concludes at 12:15 pm.

What is the camp attire?
When dressing for camp, please remember that campers will be both inside and outside. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Any loose items brought to camp should be properly labeled with the camper’s name.
DRESS CODE - GENERAL
Appropriate attire is expected for all participants, respective of their session. The basic attire should be a T-shirt, shorts or pants and sneakers or closed-toed shoes. Participants should not wear short-shorts, midriff shirts or revealing outfits. Camp Jaguar participants must bring swim gear (swimsuit, towel, goggles, and spray-on sunscreen) daily.
DRESS CODE - SPORTS SESSIONS
All sports participants should be dressed prepared to practice in the respective sport. Participants should wear shorts, a T-shirt and have proper athletic shoes. Tennis players must bring their own racquet and lacrosse players must bring their own stick, and basketball players must bring their own basketball. For those sessions where the pool will be used, a swimsuit, towel and spray-on sunscreen should be brought daily.
SWIMMING
Although we would like each child prepared to enter the pool immediately when they come to campus, we know that this might not be possible. Ideally, and more specifically for the PK-3 and 4-year-olds, we would like the children to come to camp in their bathing suits with a cover-up and sunscreen already applied. Campers will all need a change of clothes, including undergarments. These items should be in a gallon zip-lock bag with the child’s name on the outside, especially for the young ones (PK 3-4). All clothes, goggles and towels need to be labeled with your child’s name AND grade that they will be entering next year so we can return items to their owner.
Campers will be in the pool roughly one or two times a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon (full-day campers). Please bring the following items each day if your camper is not dressed-and-ready to jump in the pool:
- Swim suit
- Towel
- Goggles
- Sun screen (and lots of it)! Typically we will keep their sunscreen at camp for the week, labeled with your child’s name, so that we are sure he/she is properly protected.
- Change of clothes
- If your child has floaters or any type of assisted swim device, please have him/her bring that on the first day of camp. We will keep that device in the classroom for the week and require usage each visit to the pool.
What are drop-off and pick-up procedures?
What is your refund policy?

AHN reserves the right to cancel a session and refund payments to participants if the session does not meet the minimum participant requirement. AHN reserves the right to cancel and refund payments to participants if they register for sessions they are not eligibile for. Please make sure you choose your child(ren)'s grade for the next school year before finalizing registration.

If your child brings in such items, please remind him or her not to share food with anyone. Students who have an allergy to peanut products will not be seated at the same tables as those students who are eating items containing those ingredients. We encourage all snacks to be peanut free.
