To Be, Rather Than to Seem

Music

The music program at AHN seeks to cultivate the opportunity to develop a sense of music appreciation, master the basics of music theory, music history, choral singing, instrumental performance, and musical stage performance. The curriculum includes a variety of musical experiences allowing students to read musical notation, sing, perform on rhythmic and melodic instruments, become critical listeners and understand the importance of music to life. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in musical performances throughout the year. The curriculum is also designed with a set of objectives which are in accordance with the Sunshine State Music Expectations and covers artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context, aesthetic valuing and connections, and applications to life as they relate to each specific grade level.
