Academy Community Stocks the Summer Pantry for Mango Elementary

Academy Community Stocks the Summer Pantry for Mango Elementary
Lower and middle school students at the Academy came together in a big way to support our neighbors at Mango Elementary in Seffner, stocking their summer pantry with essential food items to help students and families in need.

Each grade level joined in the effort, turning service into a fun and friendly food-stacking challenge to see who could collect the most items. Second graders even tied the initiative to a STEM lesson. They calculated how many cans it would take to reach a 9-foot height—the approximate height of the statue of Jesus in the lobby, adding a thoughtful and faith-based dimension to their learning.
"It’s been meaningful to see our students embrace this project—not just by bringing in donations, but by engaging in deeper conversations about service. We took this time to celebrate the Easter season, remembering Pope Francis in a special way by serving the poor in our community," said Taryn Kendig, Faith in Action Coordinator. “I’m incredibly grateful for the enthusiasm of our students and teachers, and I know the staff at Mango Elementary is too.”
Thanks to the generosity of our families and students, Mango Elementary’s pantry is now well-stocked for the summer months. This outreach effort is a powerful example of how we live out the SNJM Core Values, such as Dedication to Women and Children and Service to People Who Are Poor and Marginalized.

A special thank you to Paula and James Castaño for coordinating and delivering the pantry supplies—your involvement helped bring this effort to life!
