Summer 2026 High School Student Experiences
From research labs and federal courtrooms to stages, athletic facilities and Capitol Hill, Academy of the Holy Names students spent the summer exploring their interests, developing new skills and gaining firsthand experience in fields they may one day pursue.
Students participated in programs across the country and around the world, with experiences spanning medicine, engineering, technology, law, government, journalism, the arts, athletics, service and more.
For several students, summer offered the opportunity to experience government and public service firsthand. Margaret Provenzano ’28 spent the month of June serving as a United States Senate Page, assisting senators on the Senate floor while gaining an inside look at the legislative process. Brianna Pe Aguirre ’27 represented AHN at Florida American Legion Girls State, where she served in the House of Representatives and was selected as chairwoman of the Community Affairs, Health and Rehabilitative Services Committee. She was also recognized this summer for winning the American Legion Department of Florida Oratorical Contest State Championship and advancing to the national competition.
Students pursued highly selective academic and research opportunities. Gabi Ribeiro ’27 was one of three students selected for an eight-week research training experience with the University of Miami Health System’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research examined how sleep data collected through WHOOP devices could help identify healthier shift schedules for firefighters, who face increased occupational cancer risks
At the University of Notre Dame, Macarena Mejia Omana ’27 was one of 120 students selected from approximately 2,000 applicants for the university’s fully funded Leadership Seminars. During the program’s Inequality in America seminar, she worked with professors and fellow students to examine complex social issues and develop a project focused on creating meaningful change.
Klaire Ohlson ’28 took her interest in medicine abroad, spending a month in Kenya through an International Medical Aid internship. While shadowing healthcare professionals in a public hospital, she gained firsthand exposure to patient care, global healthcare challenges, and a medical system different from her own.
Other students immersed themselves in the arts. Claudia Ruiz-Carus ’27 was one of 12 high school students selected to participate in the Baroque Performance Institute at Oberlin Conservatory, studying and performing alongside college students, graduate students, and professional musicians. Isla Paone ’28 spent six weeks at Carnegie Mellon University’s Pre-College Musical Theater Program, where she trained in acting, singing, and dance while learning more about the university’s BFA experience and audition process.
Creativity also extended beyond the arts. Naisha Singhal ’28 was named one of five national finalists in Teen Vogue and Vogue Summer School’s Fashion Business Scholarship Competition. She also launched a summer program to help younger students build confidence in digital design and visual communication.
In STEM, Amelia Lontchar ’27 participated in Purdue University’s Seminar for Top Engineering Prospects, a weeklong program hosted by the College of Engineering’s Honors Program. Through projects in physics, coding, robotics and engineering design, she gained a glimpse of the challenges students encounter in Purdue’s engineering honors curriculum.
Closer to home, numerous AHN students participated in ReliaQuest’s High School Internship, exploring cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and business operations. Students worked with the company’s GreyMatter security operations platform, heard from industry leaders and collaborated on presentations that put their new knowledge and professional communication skills into practice.
Athletes likewise took their talents beyond Bayshore Boulevard. AHN students competed at national championships, attended collegiate prospect camps and trained alongside accomplished athletes and coaches. Clara Bridge ’28 earned All-America recognition in lacrosse and was selected as a standout at several national events, while AHN rowers Moira Hempfling ’29, Caroline Pearson ’29 and Sophia Lefler ’29 participated in the USRowing Pathways Development Camp in Tennessee, training with Olympic and collegiate rowers.
Whether conducting research, exploring a potential career, serving others, competing at the national level or discovering a new passion, AHN students made the most of their time away from campus. Their experiences reflect the curiosity, confidence and initiative they bring to their education—and the many ways learning continues long after the final bell rings.
