AHN Honors 2024 Swim & Dive Team with State Championship Rings

AHN Honors 2024 Swim & Dive Team with State Championship Rings

On April 28, 2025, the Academy of the Holy Names celebrated the achievements of our 2024 2A State Champion Swim & Dive Team as they received their state championship rings. This past fall, our Jaguars captured their 17th consecutive district title, 15th consecutive region title, and third straight 2A state title, solidifying their place in history as the only girls program to ever earn a swim and dive state championship in Hillsborough County.

Competition at every level of the state series was essential to the team’s continued success. We proudly presented championship rings to the following athletes who qualified for and/or competed in the 2024 District 8 and Region 3 Championships:

  • Rowan Alexander
  • Charleigh Bell
  • Julia Cooper
  • Eileen Doyle
  • Presley Keener
  • Charlotte Lothamer
  • Caroline McGucken
  • Jasia Solak
The next athletes to receive their rings were those swimmers and divers who qualified and competed at the district, region, and state championship meets. At the 2A State Championship, our team earned two individual state titles, two relay state titles, set four new school records, and finished 71 points ahead of the runner-up, Mater Lakes Academy.

Following the passing of our beloved head coach Bill Shaffer in December, we were proud to recognize him posthumously as the Florida Dairy Farmers 2A Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year. Bill's wife, Liz Shaffer, accepted his award and his championship ring on his behalf.

A Ring Designed with Meaning

This year's state championship ring design holds special meaning:

  • Front: 2024 State Championship with the Academy "A" logo
  • Side 1: Swimmer or diver symbol
  • Side 2: Three state trophies with "3-Peat" across the top
  • Inside: Engraved with the championship date 11/16/24
  • Palm Side: Letters "WTS" to honor Coach William Thomas Shaffer

Senior Eden Jennings closed the ceremony with moving remarks about the team's undefeated season, record-breaking achievements, and the special bond that made their success possible.

"It isn’t about what we do in the pool — it’s what we’ve built over time and the way we show up for each other," Eden shared. "Coach Bill’s spirit will always be a part of this team."

Congratulations, Jaguars! We are proud of you!
