AHN Gold Star Club Volunteers at My Warrior's Place

AHN Gold Star Club Volunteers at My Warrior's Place

The AHN Gold Star Club, deeply rooted in its commitment to supporting veterans and their families, volunteered at My Warrior's Place in Ruskin, FL, on April 27, 2024. My Warrior's Place, a retreat center that serves Veterans, Military Service Members, Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, and Gold Star, Blue Star, and Silver Star Families, holds a special place in the hearts of our club members. It offers programs for those who have faced the challenges of war, endured the loss of a fallen warrior, or put their lives on the line for our safety.

Under the dynamic leadership of Co-Presidents Megan Hyer ’24 and Kelsey Overstreet ’25, the AHN Gold Star Club embarked on the spring Believe With Me Student Ambassador service campaign. The group dedicated six hours to transforming the retreat center's grounds and landscaping, enhancing the healing area for veterans and Gold Star family members.

The AHN Gold Star Club, through their dedicated efforts, cleaned out overgrown planting beds and revitalized the space with over 216 cubic feet of mulch and 244 new plants. This transformative work has created a serene and welcoming environment for those who visit My Warrior's Place, significantly contributing to the center's mission of providing a peaceful retreat and programs that aid in healing and coping.

My Warrior's Place, founded by Gold Star mother Kelly Kowall in honor of her son, Corey Kowall, who lost his life serving his country, is a beacon of solace and support for individuals and families affected by war. The center's role in providing comfort and aid is invaluable.

The dedication and hard work of the AHN Gold Star Club exemplify the Academy's values of service and community involvement. The club's efforts at My Warrior's Place are a testament to the positive impact students can have on the lives of others and their communities.
