Announcing the Retirement of AHN Chief Financial Officer John Donohoe
After a distinguished career spanning nearly 40 years in the field of education, AHN’s Chief Financial Officer John Donohoe, will retire at the end of December 2024.
Originally from Ireland, John’s journey into education began with a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Dublin, followed by a master’s degree in finance from Suffolk University. His commitment to supporting the financial health of educational institutions has been a hallmark of his career, and the Academy has been fortunate to benefit from his wisdom and expertise for the past decade.
Having started at the Academy nearly 10 years ago, John has been a highly effective financial and operational manager for the school, always keeping the Academy's mission at the center of his decision-making. Under his leadership, AHN has maintained a balanced budget while implementing strategies that have enabled the school to grow and innovate while also addressing escalating costs and keeping tuition increases as low as possible.
At the start of his tenure, John played a pivotal role in bringing the 2014 Campus Redevelopment Master Plan to life. His exceptional management of key construction projects, including the parking garage, the Bailey Center for the Arts, creation of the Holy Names Heritage Center, and the modernization of distinct learning spaces for our lower, middle and high school divisions, ensured that all projects were completed on time and within budget. More recently, John oversaw the lower school renovation and contributed significantly to elevating compensation and benefits for all Academy employees.
Reflecting on his time at the Academy, John shares, “The last ten years of my career have been my most rewarding, both professionally and spiritually. The sense of community here is unmatched and I’ll always carry the pride I feel when I say I work(ed) at the Academy.”
As he steps into retirement, John looks forward to spending more time traveling with his wife, Jaime, and enjoying the simple pleasures of life—like savoring morning coffee on the patio with his two beloved cats.
The Academy of the Holy Names community will miss John but we are incredibly grateful for his years of service and leadership. We wish him the very best during this new chapter in retirement.
