Visual Arts
To be an artist
We strive to provide equal opportunities for all students to discover the enriching power, intellectual excitement, and joy of competence in the arts.
Visual Arts in the lower & Middle school
In the lower and middle schools, we focus on providing a hands-on, sequential visual arts program where students learn basic arts literacy while learning higher-order thinking skills. Students learn to communicate their ideas and beliefs reflecting cultural diversity and interdisciplinary study through a variety of art mediums, techniques, and technology. Through the visual arts program, students appreciate the value of art in their daily lives and learn to contribute to society through their art.
Visual Arts in the High school
The visual arts program in the high school embraces and challenges students to develop their artistic voices within the spectrum of traditional and contemporary art media. Beyond a foundation in design, drawing, art history and art analysis, students can delve into specific media, such as drawing and painting, sculpture and ceramics, photography, digital imaging, and graphic design through Yearbook journalism.
Students advance to AP Art & Design where they can choose their concentrations and rigorously develop a unique and highly competent body of work for exhibition. Our visual arts program provides many avenues for students to advance themselves in meaningful arts practice applicable to the real world.
2D
Through the world of two-dimensional studio art, students experience a dynamic and creative journey encompassing mediums such as drawing, painting, and printmaking with emphasis on materials, techniques, and the creative process.
3D
Our 3D art program immerses students in a hands-on exploration of sculptural art forms, allowing them to transform their creative visions into tangible works of art.
Photography
Students master the art of capturing moments, emotions, and perspectives using cutting-edge digital technology while also immersing themselves in the traditional techniques of darkroom photography.
Yearbook
Yearbook offers students a hands-on experience in photojournalism, story-writing, and layout design. Through active participation, students contribute to the creation and annual publication of our school's cherished yearbook, Echoes.
