Some notable changes to the 2023-24 Academic Catalog include:

1. Beginning in fall 2023, the Academy will no longer offer a ‘drop/add’ window. Decisions made during the spring course selection process sets in motion the staffing, facilities needs, and master schedule for the following year. Students are recommended to take the highest academic level in which they will attain academic success (defined as a B or higher). 

2. Course changes are only permissible in the event that a course will not run due to insufficient enrollment or scheduling conflict. In situations such as this, students and families are consulted to determine alternative selections. In rare circumstances, students may drop a course or change a level at the recommendation of the teacher and with agreement from the student and her parent/guardian.  

3. Beginning with the Class of 2027, the 1.0 Art credit requirement will be fulfilled by taking 0.5 credit of visual art and 0.5 credit of performing arts. Exposure to both visual and performing arts will nurture within a student an interest in the pursuit of more electives in this space.

4. In the social studies sequence, AP World: Modern will be offered beginning in the 2023-2024 school year as a sophomore course and AP European History will be designated an elective course. The AP World - Modern course will be considered mandatory as part of participation in the Scholars Distinction Program beginning with the Class of 2027.

5. Beginning with the Class of 2027, the scope and sequence in Science will change as follows:

Summer reading and assignments will be posted in late May.

Academic Offerings

This summer, the Academy is offering the following half-credit (semester equivalent) courses: Art I, Fit for Life, Health for Life (online), and Technical Theatre and Design. The summer course catalog is available to browse; registration will open Wednesday, March 8. Registration instructions will be communicated via email.

Summer Pathways

To best posture our students for success at all levels, participation in the Summer Pathways program is strongly encouraged for all incoming students, and for some students may be strongly suggested, in order to jump start the high school acclimation process. Students will engage in a wide variety of experiences over a two-week window, providing a snapshot of what to expect in the freshman year. These days will include community-building and leadership-development activities, the beginnings of faith formation, real-time practice in the classroom setting with the Academy technology infrastructure and classroom expectations, and exposure to content classes in social studies, science and math. The program will offer pathways to confidence building, appropriate peer relationships, academic responsibility, cultural awareness, and familiarity with the Academy setting at a level appropriate for each student.

The philosophy of supported learning at the Academy recognizes that students in an all-girls’ college preparatory setting need the skills to be empowered. Our goal is to foster the learning development and independence of each individual student without altering the integrity of our established, college preparatory curriculum. Support with study skills and learning strategies are available to all students as aligned with the SNJM core value of full development of the human person: cultivating and respecting the talents, abilities and potential of each person, contributing to the development of all aspects of a person’s life.  

Newly enrolled students with diagnosed learning needs seeking to receive academic support must provide their official support plan from the previous school along with a documented diagnosis from a licensed mental health counselor, psychiatrist or psychologist for review by our support team in order to be provided with official support at the Academy. All documentation must be dated within 3 years of entry to the Academy to be considered valid for consideration for establishment of a learning plan at the Academy.

Typical recommended learning support accommodations in the classroom setting (e.g. 50% extended time, small group setting, preferential seating, opportunities for teacher extra help, etc.) are incorporated into our current instructional delivery model, recognizing a student is best served in high school by being in front of her teacher in that subject. Requests for accommodations over and above these accommodations will be granted by mutual agreement of the Academy and the student/family for the purpose of creating the most realistic instructional setting to best support that student within the limitations of our Supported Learning Programming.

AHN's summer camp, Summer on Bayshore, is looking for high school volunteers! Please click here to complete the volunteer sign-up. Only sign up for dates you are committing to volunteer. Each volunteer slot is for Monday through Friday, even though the calendar only shows the first day of the week as an option. The volunteer agreement is due before the volunteer training; please click here to download and complete it. Those eligible for volunteering are rising 9^th-12^th graders that are current or previous AHN students and Jesuit students. The deadline to sign up is May 1. 

Mandatory Training for Volunteers:

• May 6th from 9:00-10:00 am: All incoming freshmen and students from other schools as well as anyone unable to attend on May 17th
• May 17th from 3:00-4:00 pm: Rising 10^th-12^th graders

What volunteer shifts are offered?

• AM Half Day: 7:30 am-12:15 pm
• Full Day: 8:00 am-4:30 pm (with a lunch break)
• PM Half Day: 12:30-4:30pm
• Only sign up for slots in which you can arrive on time and stay the whole time.
