Belonging, Leadership, and Joy in Every Student’s Journey

At AHN, we know that middle school is about more than academics—it’s about finding your place, building confidence, and learning to lead. That’s why every student in grades 5–8 is part of our House System, a tradition designed to help students feel connected, supported, and celebrated.

What Is the House System?

The House System creates a smaller “family within the family” of our middle school. Each student is sorted into one of four houses at the beginning of their journey and remains in that house through eighth grade. With their own names, colors, and traditions, our houses become tight-knit communities where students build friendships across grade levels and feel a true sense of belonging.

Why It Matters

The House System adds energy and meaning to daily school life:

  • Belonging & Relationships: Every student is known, welcomed, and supported by peers and mentors.

  • Leadership Opportunities: Older students guide and encourage younger ones, helping everyone grow as leaders.

  • Positive School Culture: Houses cheer each other on, celebrate achievements together, and create joyful traditions that students remember long after middle school.

How It Works

Throughout the year, students earn house points for positive contributions to school life. Teachers and staff recognize students for:

  • Academic growth and effort

  • Acts of kindness and service

  • Leadership and teamwork

  • School spirit

Friendly competitions, chants, and special events build excitement and unity. At the end of the year, one house is crowned House Champion—a moment celebrated by the entire middle school community.

Benefits Beyond the Classroom

The impact of the House System reaches far beyond competitions:

  • Strengthens friendships and connections across grade levels

  • Encourages academic motivation and success

  • Builds character through shared values of kindness, courage, unity, and service

  • Creates a culture of joy, respect, and encouragement

  • Engages parents, who can follow along and join in house events

A Middle School Experience to Remember

Belonging is at the heart of middle school at AHN. Through the House System, students discover the power of teamwork, the importance of character, and the joy of shared traditions. It’s one more way we ensure that every child feels seen, supported, and ready to thrive.
