Middle School (5-8)

Faith-Based, Rooted in Gospel Values

As an SNJM school, we are driven by our mission to teach to the whole child. Within our middle school program, we emphasize social-emotional learning skills grounded in our Catholic faith, ensuring each student develops his or her God-given potential.  Through daily practice, we equip our students with the skills to establish and maintain positive relationships, effectively navigate their emotions, and accept responsibility.

Responsibly Independent with grace

In the pursuit of academic excellence, AHN challenges its graduates to be life-long learners who will serve others with integrity and compassion as stewards of our mission.  The Academy is committed to educating 21st century students who are:

  • Effective communicators and collaborators.
  • Globally aware, independent, confident, and responsible learners and citizens.
  • Critical and creative thinkers, innovators and problem solvers.

Developmentally Responsive
From the ages of 10 to 15, adolescents develop at a rapid rate second only to the development found during the first two years of their lives. (Jackson, Anthony W.; Davis, Gayle A. (2000). Turning points 2000: Educating adolescents in the 21st century. Teachers College Press.)

We honor our students' physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and psychological needs by providing them with a developmentally responsive academic, social, and spiritual program. Our learning environment and structures, such as advisories, grade-level teaming, social contracts, recess, and goal setting, allow students to fulfill their needs for relationship, competency, autonomy, and fun. This sense of belonging and community empowers students to achieve their fullest potential.

JOY Of learning

Middle school is a time for students to learn about themselves and the world around them and requires an academic approach catering to their cognitive and social-emotional development. Teachers utilize varied instructional strategies that lead students to be challenged and engaged and foster critical and creative thinking. Our curriculum seamlessly integrates social-emotional learning to help students develop empathy and cultivate positive peer relationships. Our teaching methodology promotes collaborative and active learning, providing students valuable opportunities for mutual growth and learning. Moreover, we harness technology not only to empower students in creating and designing but also to instill personal responsibility and independence.
