New Students Grades 1-4

On Monday, August 21st, new parents and students may drop by the school between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. so your child(ren) may meet their teacher, see their room, and drop off their school supplies. Parking is available in MacDill parking garage; please allow time to cross the bridge to the main campus. There is not a formal presentation during this hour, rather it is a meet-and-greet for your child and a time to clarify any questions you might have before the first day of school.

Returning Students Grades 1-4

Returning students in grades 1 to 4 do not have an orientation time. On the first day of school, there will be 8th grade students at each of the drop off locations to help assist your child with their school supplies and in finding their homeroom.

Middle School Orientation Information (5th-8th)

Returning Students Grades 5-8

Due to the renovation of the middle school building, there will not be a middle school orientation this year. We look forward to sharing the building with parents at MS Back-To-School Night on Thursday, August 31st at 6:00 p.m.

New Students Grade 5

On Monday, August 21st, there will be an orientation for our new rising 5th grade students from 8:30-9:30 am. You can drop off and pick up your child on the West Drive (drive that runs parallel to MacDill). This is also a great time to drop off your immunization forms if you haven’t already.

New Students Grades 6-8

Your orientation is on Monday, August 21st, from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. You can drop-off and pick-up your child on the West Drive (drive that runs parallel to MacDill). This is also a great time to drop off your immunization forms if you haven’t already!

New students in grades 6-8 also have technology help sessions immediately after school from 3:15-4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23rd, and Thursday, August 24th. Again, your child can be picked up on the West Drive at the end of these sessions.

New Middle School Student MacBook and iPad Distribution

All 5th-grade students will receive their MacBook and iPad after the start of school, however they should go ahead and purchase one of the suggested iPad cases from the list below.

All new rising 6th-7th grade students will be issued their new MacBook and iPad devices the week of August 7-11 between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. On Wednesday, August 9th, staff will be available until 6:00 p.m. Please enter via the Bayshore entrance and proceed to room #N304 (3rd floor in the main building).

Students are required to have an iPad 2017 case by orientation. Because iPads are not insured by the school, the Academy suggests the following cases to protect your investment.

If you are unable to pick-up that week or you have additional questions, please contact Kent Smith, Director of Technology.

Summer Reading

The grades below are for fall 2017.

Immunization & Paperwork Reminder (K, 7th Grade, ALL New Students)

If you have not yet done so, please submit the following to Deb Norris as soon as possible, but no later than the first day of school, August 23, 2017.

  • School-Entry Health Exam Form (DH 3040)
  • Florida Certificate of Immunization (Form 680)
  • Birth Certificate (new students)

Students will not be permitted to attend school in August until a current Florida Certificate of Immunization and Proof of Medical Examination are received.

First Day of School Information

As you know, the first day of school this year is Wednesday, August 23rd. Please note that our normal start time on Wednesdays is 8:45 a.m. (On every other day of the week, it is 8:00 a.m.) Eighth-grade student ambassadors will be at each various drop-off point to welcome students to school.

The first day of school, your child will receive a packet of information and forms to sign, so please be on the lookout for those.

Drop-Off

Early Bird is available in the Brady Center free of charge starting at 7:00 a.m. Please enter our campus from MacDill traveling north and use the West Drive. (Please note: Left-hand turns are not permissible traveling south on MacDill.)

Students arriving after 7:45 a.m. should be dropped off at one of the following drop-off points. On Wednesdays, this time is 8:30 a.m.

  • West Drive (runs parallel to MacDill) – Any grade level can be dropped off here.
  • North Drive – Any grade level can be dropped off here. Please note that the only location to drop off on the North Drive will be adjacent to the four square court area. To ensure the safety of our students, dropping off by the classrooms on the northeast corner is NOT an option.
  • Front Circle Drive – Any grade level can be dropped off here.
  • South Drive: Students in grades pre-K, K and 1 (and their siblings) can be dropped off on the South Drive at the southeast entrance. Parents arriving prior to 7:45 a.m. (or 8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays) may NOT wait in the drop-off area. These parents must drop off at Early Bird or circle the building until the teacher assistants are present.

Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. must enter from the front of the building off Bayshore, and their parent must check them in with the ES assistant to receive their tardy pass. On Wednesdays, please follow these procedures if you drop off after 8:45 a.m.

Pick-Up

Pick-up assignments are alphabetical according to last name. (Please note that we monitor pick up the first two weeks of school and if we need to make adjustment to accommodate traffic, we will communicate that.) Again, please note that left turns are not allowed from MacDill onto our property.

  • A-G: South Drive - Traveling north on MacDill Ave., enter campus at southernmost MacDill Ave. entrance and proceed to the South Drive (keeping the new middle school building on your left).
  • H-M: North Drive – Traveling south on Bayshore Blvd., enter campus at northernmost Bayshore Blvd. entrance and proceed to the gates next to the four-square court area.
  • N-Z: West Drive – Traveling north on MacDill Ave., enter campus at MacDill Ave. entrance and proceed under the bridge to the pickup area in front of the Brady Center.

Students in pre-K have two options for pick up. The first is a pre-K only pick-up at 2:20 p.m. on the front Bayshore Drive. Pre-K students who have siblings in other grades may be picked up at the appropriate designated points from above with their siblings at 3:10 p.m.

After 2:30 p.m., there are no early dismissals. The only exception to this is when our middle school athletes have an away match.

Dress Code Reminders & Beginning of Year Information

Dress Code Reminders

For boys:

  • Hair should be neatly trimmed above eyebrows in the front, above the collar in the back and above the ears
  • All-black leather athletic shoe (this includes the sole)

For the girls:

  • The length of jumpers or skirts should be at the knee or below.
  • All-navy or all-black Mary Janes, Oxfords, Sperrys, or athletic shoes (this includes the sole)

For PE:

  • On their scheduled PE day, students may wear the dry-fit uniform purchased online through the Jag Shop or the standard uniform purchased through Risse Brothers. (You will notice that the online store is no longer carrying Nike shorts. We have made the decision over the next year to phase out the Nike PE shorts for a more uniform appearance. We also prefer the girls have a longer 5" inseam. As we transition to this new length, students may continue to wear their Nike shorts this year but this will be the last year.)
Snacks

Students bring a snack to school each day to eat in the morning. These snacks should be peanut-free. Due to occasional inclement weather, there are times when these snacks are eaten in the classrooms. We keep the classrooms peanut-free due to students with severe allergies.
