Come to the Academy of the Holy Names High School and you will find a setting by the Bay that is both historic and state-of-the-art. You will experience a classroom environment specifically designed with young women in mind. You will find an academic program that is rich in the humanities, but also emphasizes the importance of math, science and technology.
Academy teachers have high expectations and see teaching as a privilege and a joyful responsibility, advancing the Holy Names charism and mission in a community of care and concern. Skilled in their fields, they provide a deep, well-rounded curriculum that stresses clear, analytical thinking and the ability to communicate that thinking to others. Small class size allows for independent and collaborative work, as well as authentic learning experiences involving meaningful, real-world applications of knowledge. Students are guided by an extraordinary faculty who model a love of learning and inspire them to make a difference as citizens of the 21st century. Students are encouraged to explore each discipline beyond the minimum requirements, not only to prepare for college, but also to gain a lifetime appreciation for the richness of the subject. The designed curriculum provides a diverse and challenging number of course options including honors and Advanced Placement courses.
The Academy also offers a balanced program with a commitment to athletics and the arts. Service learning occurs throughout the year and is a natural outgrowth of the mission and charism of a Holy Names institution. The development of leadership abilities is available to everyone and is a way of living. Leadership is much more than an elected position. Full-time college counselors give students personalized attention, directing their dreams and future collegiate and life plans. The single-gender environment allows each of our young women to find her voice and to discover that, as effective communicators, one can work to effect change.
I hope when you visit you will sense the students living our motto: “Esse Quam Videri,” or "To be, Rather Than to Seem." The Academy is a place where culture is inseparable from mission. Here, students share values and find confidence to achieve their intellectual and spiritual potential.
